Nawule Clinic

Nawule is a farming community in the Jomoro district of the Western Region of Ghana. The community is very close to the Ghana- Ivory Coast border and has a population of over 1,500 people who are mainly coconut farmers and  traders. Eye problems are particularly prevalent in the area, affecting three in every ten people with many suffering from cataracts.

Due to the lack of local specialist health services, residents would previously have to travel to the regional hospital in Takoradi over 70 miles away. This had prevented many people from seeking medical assistance.

The community appealed therefore to the Blue Skies Foundation to build a structure that could accommodate a clinic with specialist eye care facilities, and engaged with the Ministry of Health to provide the key personnel and necessary equipment. The Foundation agreed to help and started work on the new facility in 2016. The structure was completed by the end of 2016 and the community is now in the process of working with the Ministry of Health to get the new clinic staffed and up and running.
